RE: Speed Tag St. Paul

rdrey wrote:
i suppose i can get this one too. i think it says somewhere in the fine print of speed tag that getting sniped can or will be a common occurrence, and that feelings can and/or will be hurt...
Oh sure..don't even come inside and say hello! Just take your photo and speed off.

I thought we St. Paul speed-taggers were a little more lackadaisical than that??

RE: All City Championship July 25th-26th

yes, as you previously stated there are likely to be walkers, rollerbladers, joggers, dogs, strollers, and other obstacles on the path. The posted speed limit on the path is 10mph.

There is less traffic on the road, more space to maneuver, and traffic flows at a higher speed, making it longer, but in my opinion faster. I ride it everyday on my route to work, so I have a good knowledge base of the area.

You will have to make up your own mind on the matter but in my humble opinion the road will be the fastest route. You will be tempted to cut onto the pedestrian path around the bandshell but I think the smart play is to keep to the road where there will be much less chance of an incident as cars are way more likely to behave predictably around cyclists than pedestrians, especially when attempting to pass them at high rates of speed.

Furthermore there is no bike path heading in the same direction as the automobile traffic, which is precisely the direction you will be directed by the volunteers in your task to circumnavigate Lake Harriet, making this a moot point.
The Time Trial will be set up so that at the rendezvous point you will head north (counterclockwise if you're looking at the lake from the T intersection) on the oneway parkway. The only path going in that same direction is a pedestrian path, as bicycles are expected to ride in the street with the flow of traffic.

I put forth this information to all you racers and encourage you to stay off the pedestrian paths, they are no place for a bike race. You put yourself and others at risk by riding where you shouldn't.

RE: Community Bike Infrastructure Wiki

I don't remember where the talk was going. I ended up not really liking the structure of the wiki map plugin that we're using, but didn't really know gmaps back then. I did a lot more testing and learning at bikelove.org/routes but then started getting slammed at work last month and never really finished anything...

The one that Reid is working on lets you enter in two addresses and then plots the route, plus you can see the rating of the streets around the route.

Anything I would come up with probably wouldn't be able to do that...

(and wow, didn't realize we were getting spammed that much on the wiki. I should try to figure out how to stop that. Thanks for cleaning it up, skyrover )

all depends on how busy and how many hands they got in the shop. realistically, that shouldn't take all that long, but, if there is other stuff before you, who knows. Behind Bars in NE always has been quick for my roommate and I.

i was just gonna post bout this. found his card at SIP the other day. i was thinking about just a basic single color on my frame, so if it's decent, i'd totally shell out 50 bucks. if anyone as any experience, or if I decide to go through with it, comments should follow.

i have a friend that I recently got into biking, and he's commuting around town in full force. But, he's moving to grad school in Milwaukee this fall and he wants a good shop to take care of him. He's living in bayview and is schooling at Marquette, so does anyone have and recommendations? Thanks.
