I wanted to go somewhere close to home, but I thought I'd have to trek out a mile or two for a good tune up. When I did a search, Tangletown Bike Shop came up just a few blocks away. I hadn't heard of it before so I biked over to check it out.
It's a small shop with about 30-35 bikes (new and used) for sale along with parts and accessories. They have a grill parked out front on summer days, I think for the bike mechanic's lunches.
I've taken my bike there twice now for tuneups. They just overhauled my commuting bike, which ran me to and from work all winter long, and did a bang-up job, even throwing in some work time for free to get me under a certain price range. Really nice mechanics with good answers to all my questions about the work, about the bike, and about accessories.
It was called Tangletown Bike Shop, but recently changed to "Charlie's Tangletown Bike Shop." Their Facebook page is updated more than their website.
I recommend it to anyone in the vicinity.
