I'm posting for my neighbor. Tonight his 2011 Specialized Roubaix SL3 Compact was stolen from outside of Target downtown. It was U-locked to one of the short meter poles. The lock was gone so I would assume that it was lifted over. He is supposed to headed to Madison to participate in the Aids Network ACT 10 ride this week.

The frame is carbon, matte black in color, Specialized in black gloss. Touches of red on the farme as well. SRAM Rival component group.

Specialized site, but shown with Ultegra rather than Rival
http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bikes/archive/2011/roubaix/roubaixsl3expertc2#specs

Here is Joe on the actual bike.

Please keep your eye out. He is very active in raising money and awareness for Aids. He rides hundreds and hundreds of miles raising money for the cause. This is a really terrible loss.

Thanks!

Ugh...whenever I see those posts and it's really parked up, I'm tempted, but reason returns and I move on to something more secure.

Should be easy to stop with that stem.

Had a PM about a possible sighting last night.

Quote:
Hi,

I'm pretty sure I saw this bike on Wednesday, 6:30 pm, being ridden by a short Latino man, maybe 25-30 YO. He was riding on the sidewalk on Franklin next to me for a few blocks-- between Park and 35. The bike has clip-in pedals, and he was struggling with his street shoes and the fact that it was too big for him. There was a U-lock clanging around on the downtube.

If there are any other sightings please call me:

651-315-0335

The person that made the sighting asked if they should call police or 911, I doubt it would do any good. As the police are mostly good for nothing. If its seen again, call me.. I'll take care of it.

Thanks for looking out!

BIKE IS RECOVERED!!!!!

Bike was spotted by a Mesa Pizza employee... he saw his COWORKER riding it. He found this post and called me yesterday. Told me when "coworker" would be working next. Waited outside of Mesa with Beau and Garrick. "coworker" rolled up, I grabbed the handlebars, ulocked it, and told him to get the fuck off, "camina houra!" He walked away without incident.

Thanks to Beau for bringing power tools just in case, and thanks to Garrick (thirteenofclubs) for bringing a trailer.

I'm so happy that my friend Joe can continue on his path of riding his bike fighting AIDS and HIV.

SHIT YEAAAS!

Congratulations on that recovery, what a deal man. I wish I was as lucky, but I fear my Dahon thief is not that stupid.

Anyhow, awesome deal and I hope your friend does smashingly.

Keep your eye out for el Dahon Formula s18, maybe someone will see it on Franklin some day.

As in, every street sign and bike rack within sight has multiple bikes locked to it and people are actually resorting to locking bikes to the short meter posts.

I am really glad the bike was recovered. But was hurling racial epithets at the person completely necessary? Are you even sure he even stole it? Under what circumstances did he come to posses this bike?

I know it is exciting to recover stolen property, but hopefully as a community we can be a bit more tactful about it.

Ditto for this comment. So a lot of people of color, mostly poor, on bicycles = bike thieves?

C'mon now,

I'll be sure to let all my neighbors know that this is stereotype flying around about them,

Thanks robinhood, I agree (from the QBG facebook group):

"I'm really glad Joe's bike was recovered, especially since cycling is so much more than sport for him. However, this story would have been a lot more righteous without the addition of "camina puto, houra [sic]!" For me, it really only reinforced an long standing trend that people of color in the country are more often than not guilty until proven innocent (though I guess from the post it is unclear if any questions were asked or only demands made). On that note, glad the police weren't involved at least. Hoping that if he did in fact steal the bike, that he won't do it again, and that he can get some information about the Sibley Bike Library, Nice Ride, etc. so that he can manage to get around without any illegal activity on anyone's part."

Yeah - the flicked through my mind as well that I hope this is the stolen bike. Otherwise it's a bike jacking with tones of racial profiling or something. Maybe the O.P. can post back the serial numbers matched or something?
