I'm looking for a wall rack system to store 6 to 8 bikes. This is for the garage, so it doesn't have to be pretty. We have a wide varity of bike styles, cruiser, road, mount... Let me know if you have a system that you like. Thanks!

Do you lock them up somehow too, Kuando? I've considered hooks but I like the piece of mind of u-locking bikes to heavy shit too.

the hooks from the rafters works for now, but the number of bikes is making that a challenge. Additionally, I'm the only one in the house tall enough to get them down from the rafter hooks. I'd like to hang them from the wall studs, but need to be able to organize them to fit a smaller space.
I do not lock up in my garage, may upgrade to a chain lock for the garage. It's a good point, I've known too many people that have lost bikes out of their locked garage.

I still use hooks on the wall. If you reverse orient the bikes they can pack in reasonable small (hang front wheel high, then back wheel, repeat). Given the small space I have to work with we end up hanging a few bikes from the ceiling as well, but the spendy ones are wall mounted with a cable running through them. Not U-lock secure, but over-curious teen secure. A pic of the stable, sans car:

I have a whole wall of my garage dedicated to bike storage. Some stay on the floor, another hangs horizontally from a top tube hanger on the wall right above, a couple hang vertically from ceiling hooks. All are somehow group locked and\or chained to the garage structure. I think if you have limited space you have to use multiple methods to get the best use, especially if you have different styles of bikes\handlebars.

That's how I do it in my basement. I have one hook per stud, so that means each bike is only taking up 16" of width.

There are special hooks made for hanging bikes on the wall, but I've found the ordinary big vinyl-coated ones at the hardware store work fine too.

Thank you for all the input! I followed zombinate's model, using the standard hardware store bike hooks. There are 2 more bikes, but one is my daily ride and normally sits next to the door and the daughter plans to move her Electra to the boyfriend's house, freeing up one spot... so I think this will take care of my needs for now.
