Yeah, I've been getting this intermittently for the past few days. Usually a refresh after a few seconds clears it.

We have been having an issue where when spambots are hitting us hard, it can bring down our server, affecting other sites' performance and reliability. While we wait for some new hardware to go online at our ISP, we have deployed a utility which disables the board if the 1-minute load average on the server exceeds 0.9.

This is getting very annoying. I think I'm going to take a break from bikelove for a while.

My pea brain can't stop thinking a simple remedy to the spambot problem would be new members require mod approval before posting. No?

We have taken some additional countermeasures that should prevent the board from going offline or being disabled, namely using mod_evasive for apache. omgmrj wrote: This is getting very annoying. DangHeim wrote: My pea brain can't stop thinking a simple remedy to the spambot problem would be new members require mod approval before posting. No? While bogus users and actual spam are a problem that could be remedied by an approval process, we are trying to do a minimum of changes while we work on the new platform. It also doesn't solve the problem of non-users (whether bogus or not) hitting the server so hard that it brings down the machine--and this is the real problem. I am also loathe to require approval for new users, as many users come to the forum with time-sensitive information about thefts, collisions, and breaking news. hokan wrote: Need more moderators? No, I think we're good for now.

Yes, thanks!
I'm wondering if the current software allows you to limit new users to 5 or 10 posts per day. That might keep some of these Warez trolls from filling up every single thread with their spammy crap.

MBL spammer of the day. On today's menu we have: Whereelob Hapgualanogma vanieflyBaile All fresh this Saturday.
Seriously, why are all these spammers getting through? Why is MBL such an easy target? Thanks, Bill.

Where are these spammers posting from? Can we just ban IPs from that country?

This. How soon till this upgrade? It looks as if there must be a 34 or 35 post limit for each new screen name, since that's what they've all posted. Maybe cutting back to 5 for new members would help a bit, at least until the new defenses can be deployed.
