would there be any interest in a MBL fishing tourney, here's what I have in mind:

rules
you have to bike you and your fishing gear to the lake/river from your house.
you need a photo and measurement of the fish in question.

not sure how we would account for fish of different species
game fish/non game fish(possibly different categories)

seems like this contest could run through the summer/winter if need be.

any interest? any other suggestions on how to make this work better, can't wait to use my new 6wt pack flyrod, i want to target some large carp this summer.

I'm in. Longest fish (which you can tell with a photograph) wins. Therefore you should be fishing for pike and muskies :-). If we wanted photos of carp and bullheads, we should have an "ugliest fish" photo tag contest.

Yea probably best to keep it simple. I got a great pike/muskie lake about 20 miles from my door but I'll have to wade it, I do have a boat to my disposal out there but that's not exactly fair.

muskie opener this weekend. the contest starts now. post all fish picks maybe we can come up with some creative categories. we could reviev the fish tag thread for posting pics.

I think any method that the DNR says is ok, is ok by me. If you want to take a carp by bow and arrow (hard to do since they closed that old Cedar Avenue Bridge), I'd like to see it.

Hand grenades are not allowed by the DNR, and therefore have no place in this game. :-).

it's probably legal there, but you'd have to bike from your home to Afghanistan for the fish to qualify. ;)

Count me in too. Now, if I only had a touring bike...

yea I hear you, Ted has a clear advantage with the whole boat/ trailer thing, but it will be fun to see what I can catch with a minimal setup. I'm gonna have to learn to fish the Mississippi I think. If anyone wants to meet up and go fishing this summer I'd be down for that.

winter may be my best shot at winning this, but I'm gonna have to figure out the whole auger thing.

My kayak is a tandem, and I am willing to go with a partner. Also, one of the bigger muskies I've caught (39 inches) was right off the shoreline at Bryant Lake.

speaking of which...Ted, you have any thoughts for a cart for my aluminum canoe I recently acquired. It faired quite well on our 5 hour cruise down minnehaha creek last weekend right before the hail started.

These are the wheels I use:

Using a slightly modified version of this for the hitch:

http://www.wicycle.com/canoe_woody_hitch.php

Actually it looks like Wike has done some redesign. The reason I modified it was because their thing is built for a canoe, not a sea kayak. Anyway the people at wike were very willing to sell me the seatpost hardware and cut the tube to my spec. But if you're hauling a canoe, the standard thing might would probably work fine.

You could just get the whole setup from Wike, but I don't like Wike's wheels. The instep ones are tougher.

But this is the second bike trailer I built for this purpose. I originally just pulled apart an old Cannondale bugger kiddie trailer, rigging up a yoke for the front of the boat out of the hitch hardware, and then just strapping the trailer chassis to the middle of the boat. That worked fine until I wore it out.

If you have a geared bike with 20 inch wheels, that is the ideal thing to pull it with--keeps the boat more level if can put the hitch lower on the seatpost.

I would be down..

I just built up a utility trailer to carry stuff...

perfect for this application. I can also attach a live well so you can see for your self the largest fish caught by bike...

I'm going to pull the yak down to Nokomis or Snelling this evening to see if they are biting. There is room in the front seat for anyone interested in trying for a winning entry. I have an extra rod and life jacket, but you must supply your own tackle and license (and get there by bike, if you are going for a valid MBL fishing tourney entry). PM me if you are interested; first come first serve.

oh yeah licenses.
fucking government... how much are they this year?
I think it's wrong to need a license to fish.
