Hi, I'm helping Soren make the Midtown Greenway light up for Northern Spark 2012, which will be June 9-10. My idea? To send four or five bikers either on the Greenway or to other Spark events with GoPro cameras mounted on their helmets/handlebars/whatever. Then we would project that footage onto the wall where the 10th Av. ramp is. I'd like to do a live video feed, but I keep running into technological barriers.

What I'm looking for is volunteers who own a GoPro to get some nighttime footage for me. Make it Northern Sparkly! And if anyone possesses the know-how to do a live feed, I would be extra grateful and you would get much beer. Thanks.

How far do you need the video to be fed from? I have some experience with wireless video, and do live video manipulation from time to time. Most of the existing wireless stuff out there will only get you about 200 feet or so reliably. Have you thought about using smart phones? You could use webcam apps on an android or iphone and stream via IP.

Yes, the distance factor has been a huge roadblock. I guess I didn't know you could do live streaming from a smart phone. Last night I was trying to do a little research on ustream and qik. Do you have a favorite? It looks like with the ustream option you can't isolate the video - in other words it looks like when the laptop is hooked up to the projector the viewers have to see pop up ads and other garbage. Is that true?

Unfortunately, my experience is mostly with live stage performances, so distance hasn't been a factor. And I prefer cables when I can use them, because it's cheap. I've used a couple of programs for video manipulation. One that might work (but is a little weird if you aren't used to it) is Isadora. Are you using multiple projectors or just one? I'll ping the VJs I know and see if any have dealt with this.

I have access to two projectors. I looked up the Isadora site - too cool! And too much money (for me)! I'm going to download mobiola today and see what it can do for me. Thanks for finding all this info for me.
