I actually thought about that. It's a quote from Phil Liggett from the 1986 TDF:

"There goes Benard Hinault, in a gear most men use only on the downhills!"

I thought that since the "most men" part refers to the gear in use that it was gender neutral enough that I should keep to the exact words.
