I have seen a few posts on sub-24 hour/overnightbike camping destinations (Carver Park, etc.) but I now have a Long Haul Trucker and some free time, so I want to dip my toe into the world of touring, and have concluded that S24O's are the way to get my feet wet. I am hoping to aggregate a list of destinations, routes and insider tips here, so PLEASE share your favorite destinations, post Gmaps of your routes, and share what you can to get me (and others) up the learning curve here. Many thanks in advance, Bike Love!

We just went camping with another family at Baker Park Reserve in Maple Plain. I haven't plotted a route but I'm sure it would be nice and easy to get there. Since it's a Three Rivers park, the amenities are top notch. They have really nice beaches, picnic areas, and boat rentals. I've been considering some kind of S24O since our visit.

mjuv posted this map of camping destinations within a day of Minneapolis. I was going to bike out to Willow River State Park near Hudson, WI a couple weeks ago to meet some friends who were camping (didn't happen) and it looks to be about 40 miles each way from south mpls. Here's a thread with some relevant information on Willow River and William O'Brien: http://mplsbikelove.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14379&hilit=willow+river

Glenn Hills Co park is pretty nice - newish facilities (ie - nice showers) and the golf course clubhouse is right by the campground so you can grab beer and burgers. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=203744871805869393002.0004a99f3bd4496325d39&msa=0&ll=44.993455,-92.49733&spn=0.469561,1.122665The ride after you cross the river can be pretty boring though - very flat / straight with not much to look at.

snake river campground east of pine city is my favorite sub24. there's even quite a bit of scenic gravel riding if you cut over to the saint croix instead of taking 61.

Anybody want to post directions to Baker Park off of the Luce line? I am guessing it is pretty simple a friend of mine in the twin cities wants to give this S24O thing a try and is scoping out the options...
