Does anybody know about the Sun Spider? Saw one at The Alt the other day. Kind of interesting lower priced fat-tire bike. It has been designed for sand, not snow and ice. But other than that, would like to know if anybody has used one for winter/snow riding (& I know, there has been no snow or winter!). http://bit.ly/wypVP3 spider by ChrisAdy, on Flickr (edit - fixed image)

I can't see how that laid-back riding position could be good for any kind of winter/snow/offroad kind of riding.

Does this bike make my tires look fat?Joined: Sat Jul 30, 2011 8:18 pmPosts: 660Location: Audubon Park

With what little snow riding i've done on my fat bike this year i've realized you want to spread your weight evenly between the wheels. Otherwise you have float on the front and you sink in the back.
Also, the chain on this will always rub the tire. Save up for a real bike. Erik's in Dinkytown has a pug for rent if you haven't ridden a fat bike before

I like the 2 speed kick shift hub. That's an interesting idea for a winter set-up. Might have to try that next year on my winter bike. If we actually have a winter, that is.
