Stupor Bowl Ten, the Twin Cities biggest (actual) messenger race is happening oh yes it is. It's the tenth anniversary of this amazing race and it's going to great fun, so I hope you'll all come out and join us and tell all your friends. Anybody can participate.

here's stuff you might care to know:

Friday Feb. 2nd 2007

5-9 PM: Stupor Bowl pre-pre-party open house at Cars-R-Coffins on Lyndale and 34th. The exhibit at CRC will be a small exhibit of tens years worth of crap, I mean, priceless memorabilia from the past nine years of Stupor Bowl. Can you believe it? Minneapolis messengers have somehow gotten their shit together for the past nine, going on ten years to throw this race. Rumor has it that the ORIGINAL MANIFEST may be taken out of its hemetically-sealed, achival museum case for a rare and special appearance at this event. (if we can track down Otto.)
9PM-bedtime: Pre-party and registration at Club Underground, at the Spring Street Tavern, Northeast Minny. Drink specials, music (local bands to be announced soon), registration, track stand competition, and more.

Saturday February 3rd, 2007:

10AM-2PM: last chance to register at One-on-One. Enjoy some coffee, oogle the bikes, and enjoy Carolyn Yang's Tour de France photo exhibit.
2:30PM: Ride over the top secret location for the start of the race.
3PM: Bang! Race starts, you're on your own for the next three hours.
6PM: cut-off time for last racers. The last stop will the Foundation Nightclub, fifth street and hennepin, downtown Minneapolis. That's all you get know about the race right now.
6PM-you're so wasted we call the bouncers: Foundation Nightclub. Announcing of the winners, handing out the sweet prizes, partying, and performances by Aviette, Best Friends Forever, and other local bands.

Sunday February 4th, 2007: Brunch and bloody mary's at the Triple Rock, home of some of the Twin Citie's best vegetarian, vegan, and carniverous food.

Monday February 5th, 2007: We all return to our normal lives...

That's all for now! Rumor has it that there will be custom bags for the men's and women's winners in both race categories (both open and drunk race) so start training now!

--If you are coming in from out of town and need a place to stay, e-mail our super SBX matchmaker and she will do her best to hook you up with a friendly local and their couch/floor/extra bedroom. The address is

sbxhousing@yahoo.com

If you are one of those folks who are willing to have people crash at your place, also e-mail to this address!

***Just to pre-emptively answer that one kid who's under 21 and writes in about every race that has a bar stop, yes, you pretty much need to be of drinking age to participate. The race organizers have enough liability concerns on their hands and don't want the added stress of being involved with underage minors being served alcohol. Sorry, see you in a few years.

If you've participated in Stupor Bowl before and have cool photos, old manifests, or anything else of interest (the more "vintage" the better) get in touch. We might like to display them for the StuporBowl memorabilia exhibit. Don't worry, we will take good care of your possessions and they will of course be returned to you after the event.

awe....superrookie. I'm touched.

Somebody asked if I needed help with publicity? God, yes. Even though I don't believe in god....

anyway, yeah, pass this one to anybody that might be interested. We're hoping for a record turnout this year and it's always cool to have out-of-towners join in the fun.
Maybe there'll even be a special prize for the person who has traveled the most miles to race Stupor Bowl. yes, I think that can be arranged....

I don't see anything about it on bikeForums.net - I'm assuming it's going to be kept to regional boards?

So is it really a race for everyone, or can we just ride fast with a couple friends for fun? if we finish in 4 hours that is.

You can ride the race however you want. Only one person (of the 200+ starters) can win, so it's safe to say most people aren't riding with the hopes of winning.
Last year there were two other categories for people who didn't want to race for first: a medallion hunt and a poker race, I don't know if either of these will be included this year but it would give you a chance of winning something even if you just want to "ride fast with a couple friends for fun."

Actually there will be five winners this year. There is no "overall winner," that's bullshit and what happens when men run things. There will be a women's and men's winner in the open/speed race. There will be a women's and men's winner in the drunk race. There will a winner of a gender to be determined in the poker race. Unlike in the past when that sweet, custom bag only goes to the men's winner, we are considering all four categories as separate races, in a way, and they will all get sweet, custom bags.
See, if I was really bitchy, then I would take all those sweet custom bags coming our way and give them to the top two women in both categories, to make up for all the years when only the boys got the custom bags, but I'm too nice to do that.
And of course, anybody is truly welcome to race or not race or just ride along, have fun, whatever. If you're really pokey and roll into a bar stop at 6:15 PM after the cut-off time, there might not be a volunteer stop worker there anymore, that's all.
